Fira Mediterrània of Manresa and the cooperative Abacus have signed a partnership agreement based on their shared aims and values in connection with education and culture. Some of the main actions covered by the agreement are the workshop organised by Abacus as part of the Fira programme, the selection made by the cooperative of material related to Fira’s core theme this year of “the crucible of cultures”, plus discounts for Abacus members on tickets for paying shows in the Manresa marketplace. The partnership between the two organisations also includes publicising each other’s activities via the channels available to both of them.

Abacus, as part of the 16th Fira Mediterrània of Manresa and in the Manresa Alliance section, will be holding a children’s activity at its shop premises. The workshop is scheduled for Saturday 9 November at 12 noon and is called “Omple el Mediterrani de Peixos amb Fischer Tip” (Fill the Mediterranean with fish using Fischer TiPs). Boys and girls taking part in the workshop will be making fish out of Fischer TiPs, which are little pieces of potato starch that stick together when you moisten them.

As part of their mutual collaboration, Abacus is letting Fira Mediterrània use its premises in Manresa for a press conference to launch Fira. Plus, Abacus is putting together a Fira Mediterrània book collection based on this year’s theme of “crucible of cultures" and will be setting up a special themed display area in the shop.

Under the agreement, Abacus is offering its network of contacts for promoting activities and events organised as part of Fira Mediterrània of Manresa. Likewise, Fira Mediterrània of Manresa is featuring the Abacus logo on its communication media to acknowledge the cooperative's role as partner organisation. The Abacus logo on the Fira web site is a direct link to the Abacus site http://abacus.coop/. Both organisations will be giving each other advertising space in leaflets, booklets and other forms of publicity in their local area. Plus, Abacus members will get a 20% discount on tickets for Fira Mediterrània shows. This discount was the one used most often at last year’s Fira Mediterrània.

Abacus was set up in 1968 as a cooperative for consumers connected with education, and its purpose is to supply good quality school material written in Catalan.
