Fira Mediterrània ranked third best ‘large world-music festival’ by Transglobal World Music Chart (TWMC)
The Manresa-based music fair also comes fourth in the Global Top 10 ranking by this international network of expert world music critics.
Fira Mediterrània Manresa is the third best ‘large world music festival’, according to the judges of the first Transglobal World Music Chart’s Festival Awards (TWMV). Fira also comes fourth in the global Top 10 ranking.
The Australian WOMADelaide and Korean Jeonju Int’l Sori Festivals tied in first place for the best large world-music festival to beat Fira Mediterrània. These festivals also rank first in the Top 10 Global chart, followed by World Music Festival Bratislava (Slovakia) and Fira Mediterrània.
TWMC was established in 2015 by Ángel Romero (WorldMusicCentral.org, United States), Araceli Tzigane and Juan Antonio Vázquez (Mundofonías, Spain) to create a network of music critics that regularly promote folk and world music through a range of mediums. The network includes representatives from most areas of the world, who share an all-inclusive outlook. TWMC releases several charts throughout the year, based on the quality of the music or event, and the network members promote the best world music productions, independently of geographical barriers. Their selection is based on talent and artistic merit, rather than popularity, big productions or record sales.
TWMC established these awards to enhance world music prestige, as a tool for the development of people in many areas of life and as a means of promoting joy and pleasure. A total of 24 participants entered the awards, of which 20 were formally evaluated.
