The programme of internationalisation being pursued by the Fundació Fira Mediterrània de Manresa reaches a high point this week with the inclusion of six acts from the Catalan-speaking lands on the bill at two festivals, one of them in Estonia and the other in France, as part of the international cooperation agreements which have been made for a period of two years, 2013 and 2014.

Firstly, at the twentieth Estivada festival of Occitan culture in Rodez, France, tomorrow, Tuesday 23rd July, Roger Mas and the Cobla Sant Jordi-Ciutat de Barcelona will be appearing on the main stage at this, the premier date in Occitan culture, with their joint production from the 2011 Fira Mediterrània. The next day will be the turn of the traditional singer from Xàtiva in the València region, Pep Gimeno ‘Botifarra’, who will be presenting his work at the Estivada ‘Salle des Fetes’, a medium-sized venue. Catalan will be heard again on the main stage on Friday 26th with Obrint Pas from València, on their farewell tour. In return for this Catalan presence in France, various Occitan groups will be performing at the next Fira Mediterrània in Manresa in November.

Also, in the same week, as part of the FolkMus – Young musicians and old stories, folk music in musEUms and more’ project, led by Rome city council and co-financed by the European Union Culture Programme, the Catalans Pau Figueres and Manu Sabaté will be appearing at the 21st Viljandi Folk Music Festival, in Estonia, where they will be on stage this Thursday 25th and Saturday 27th July. Figueres and Sabaté will be performing together with artists from four other countries: Greece, Italy, Estonia and Portugal. Figueres will be contributing with his guitars and Sabaté with gralles, tarotes and clarinets. This event in Estonia is one of the biggest and most influential in the Nordic and Baltic region. The Fira will also be taking part in an international ‘networking meeting’ there.
